About
Certified Irish Angus is a farmer-led organisation supporting the production and promotion of Certified Irish Angus beef in Ireland, with education and engagement with the next generation central to its work.
The Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition, delivered in partnership with ABP and Kepak, is a national programme for second-level students. Beginning in Transition Year, students develop a research project linked to agriculture, agri-food, food, nutrition, sustainability or another relevant area. Five finalist schools go on to receive Angus calves worth approximately €4,500, rear the cattle during 5th year, complete their research and take part in a fully funded international educational trip. Students can also use their project to support their Leaving Certificate Agricultural Science work, with strong cross-curricular links across other subject areas.
Throughout the competition, students build practical knowledge and develop skills in teamwork, communication, research, leadership, public speaking and project management. The programme also supports wider personal development, with relevant activities able to contribute towards Gaisce – The President’s Award."

Programme Breakdown
Bronze, Silver
Students can choose a research topic linked to agriculture, agri-food, food, nutrition, sustainability or a related area and submitting a project video by 31st OctoberBronze, Silverfor the Personal Skill Challenge Area of the Bronze or Silver Award.
Shortlisted groups progress to panel interviews in the second week of January, with approximately 45–50 groups selected to exhibit their projects at Croke Park in the second week of March.
Silver, Gold
From Croke Park, five finalist schools are selected to continue the programme through 5th and into 6th year. Each group receives five Angus calves, which they rear until approximately August/September of 5th year while completing an in-depth research project. Students engage with farmers, industry experts, businesses, schools and their local communities to gather evidence, raise awareness and communicate their findings.
Gaisce participants can use this part of the competition towards the Community Involvement or Personal Skill Challenge Area of their Gaisce Award.
