Challenge Area Activities

Physical Recreation:
Mountaineering Ireland's TrailSeekers Programme is designed to increase student confidence and competence when operating in outdoor environments. It builds social skills, leadership capacity and personable responsibility. The expereince is largely practical in nature - providing experiential education in natural landscapes. Participants are also expected to model stewardship for those areas we visit when engaged in outdoor recreation.

For more information on when students can take part in this programme, please contact the Oireachtas Parliamentary Education Team directly by email at education.outreach@oireachtas.ie

Programme Breakdown

Mountaineering Ireland's TrailSeekers Programme for secondary schools involves a minimum engagement of 14.5 hours in the areas of Hill Skills Training and Responsible Outdoor Recreation.

Additionally, Youth Members of MI can access more formal training pathways through our grant funded scheme. This includes Mountain Skills 1 & 2 and Lowland Leader Training. MI programmes have the potential to positively impact both Gaisce participants and PALs. They have existing formal and informal training pathways that can build confidence and leadership capacity (no to mention, skills) for those undertaking Adventure Journeys.
