Programme Breakdown

Workshops run during the academic school year; September to June, while week-long summer day camps run in July and August.

Fighting Words provides free creative writing workshops for primary and secondary school students at their centre in Dublin and in the Connemara Gaeltacht. Silver and Gold Gaisce Participants (aged 18+) can facilitate creative writing workshops as mentors for Community Involvement. Mentors can choose the days and times that they volunteer, which allows them to complete their hours on a schedule that suits them. Training is provided.

Bronze Gaisce Participants (aged 14-18 in secondary school) can join Write Club, our welcoming community of teen writers, which runs twice per week in person at Fighting Words' centre in Dublin or a bi-monthly online session. Write Club members also have the opportunity to perform their creative work at our open mic sessions, called Story Slam, several times a year. No previous experience in creative writing is required to join Write Club. Either of these options fulfils the Personal Skill Challenge Area.
