The Alzheimer Society of Ireland has been officially announced as a new Challenge Partner with Gaisce – The President’s Award. Challenge Partners support and involve young people to participate in one or more Gaisce Challenge Areas, allowing Gaisce participants to use relevant activities to count towards achieving their Award. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland facilitates Gaisce participants to meet either the Personal Skill or the Community Involvement challenge areas through involvement in the 'Creating a Dementia Inclusive Generation' Programme. Gaisce partners with ECO-UNESCO on Youth Climate Justice Challenge
A consortium of five youth organisations, led by ECO-UNESCO, Ireland’s environmental education and youth organisation is launching the second #YouthClimateJusticeChallenge, with partners Gaisce-The President's Award, The No Name Club, Irish Girls Guides & Young Irish Film Makers. The Youth Climate Justice Challenge is aimed at encouraging and empowering young people to take on local action projects on Climate Justice and will include: a series of workshops, a week of Youth Action on Climate Justice, the development of resource materials and a Youth Climate Survey to garner young people’s opinions more broadly on climate justice and environmental issues including barriers and opportunities for young people’s engagement. Gaisce – The President’s Award calls on the public to plant a bulb to protect our bees
To celebrate 35 years of Gaisce – The President’s Award, the organisation is encouraging people across the country regardless of age, location or size of back garden to take up their own Gaisce challenge this autumn and plant a pollinator-friendly bulb to protect one of the most important players in the climate change battle – bees. If planted in autumn, the bulbs will bloom in Spring. The #BulbsForBees campaign is supported by President Michael D. Higgins and the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan who have worked with Gaisce to undertake the largest ever pollination project in Ireland. Galway native joins Gaisce – The President’s Award as Youth Justice Project Officer
Born in Co. Galway, Karen Dervan is a graduate of NUI Cork and the University of Limerick, where she studied Music, English and Irish. Her career to date has seen her working as a professional viola player and music/events producer throughout Ireland and abroad. Primarily a classical music performer with orchestras and ensembles, Karen has also enjoyed forays into rock and pop music, most notably the 80s music string quartet Retrospect, which she founded in 2013, and with the post-rock collective 3epkano. She curated and produced the celebrated Kaleidoscope salon music series from 2014 until 2020. In 2019, Karen became the first Development Officer for a new Music Generation department in Galway City. Limerick woman appointed as Gaisce’s Digital Media & Communications Officer
Limerick native Niamh Dillon has been appointed to Gaisce - The President's Award as their new Digital Media and Communications officer. She joins the communications team having started her media career as a journalist working with local newspapers in Tipperary and Limerick. She holds a BA in Journalism and New Media from the University of Limerick, a Higher Diploma in Digital Marketing and Business and a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing and Data Analytics from Limerick Institute of Technology. Speaking following her appointment Niamh Dillon said: "I am delighted to have joined the team at Gaisce - The President\'s Award.
Gaisce appoint new Community & Events Officer
Gaisce - The President's Award has appointed Emily Wolfe as their new Community & Events Officer. Emily hails from England, and grew up in Ashby de la Zouch – a small town in the heart of the National Forest, the setting for Robin Hood’s famous archery competition in Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe and home to fictional diarist Adrian Mole. She has recently relocated from the United Kingdom where she spent 7 years working for the National Trust – a conservation charity and heritage membership organisation with a portfolio of over 500 properties and landscapes across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Emily worked
