The Irish Heart Foundation is a national charity that supports and campaigns for people affected by heart and stroke disease in Ireland.

Challenge Area Activities

Personal Skill:
Participate in CPR 4 Schools online course to learn life-saving skills, instructing skills and ways of spreading awareness.

Programme Breakdown

Gaisce Participants will explore the skills associated with CPR. They will then use their skills to teach their peers using the CPR 4 Schools online course.
This will help students develop personal and communicative skills by instructing other students in these life-saving skills.
The students will also research other ways to raise awareness of CPR and associated areas of interest (Eircode, F.A.S.T, AED locations) in their school and the wider community.


The course consists of two classes each week for thirteen weeks. (40 minute classes). The module takes place between September to December.
  • Week 1 – Introduction to the course
  • Week 2 – Students complete the CPR 4 Schools online course
  • Week 3 – Raise awareness campaign for Restart a Heart (October 16th) or an alternative date
  • Week 4 – Students plan implementation strategies to train their peers. Set a date, assign tasks and create goals
  • Week 5 – Students practise instruction with a small group of peers and reflect on areas of success and improvement
  • Week 6 – Students develop ways to raise awareness of upcoming training in their school
  • Week 7 – Students train their peers
  • Week 8 – Students train their peers
  • Week 9 – Students develop ideas for a project associated with CPR (AED awareness, EIRCODE awareness, four steps to save a life, etc.)
  • Week 10 – Project work
  • Week 11 – Project work
  • Week 12 – Project work
  • Week 13 – End of module review and success celebration
