From Gaisce Awardees to Olympians!
The 2024 Paris Olympics has wrapped up, and we at Gaisce – The President’s Award have been on the edge of our seats watching the Irish team compete. Congratulations to all our Olympians, especially those who are Gaisce Awardees and made it all the way to Paris! Â
Our Gaisce Olympians are:Â Â
- Jack Woolley who competed in the Taekwondo competition and achieved his Gaisce Bronze Award in September 2015.Â
- Phil Healy who competed in athletics and finished 4th in the 4×400 relay and achieved her Gaisce Bronze Award in May 2016.Â
- Ellen Walshe who competed in the 400m and 200m competitions in swimming and is a Gaisce Bronze Awardee, having achieved her award in May 2018.Â
- Gavin Mullin who was a member of the Irish Rugby 7’s team and is a Gaisce Bronze Awardee.Â
- Aifric Keogh who competed in rowing and finished 2nd in coxless pairs heat; 6th in semi-final; 8th overall and is a Gaisce Bronze Awardee.Â
- Eimear Lambe who competed in rowing and finished 3rd in coxless four heat; 4th in repechage; 7th overall. and is a Gaisce Bronze Awardee.Â
- A special shout out to Sligo’s Mona McSharry. Mona made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning Ireland’s first Olympic medal in almost 30 years in Swimming at the 100m breaststroke final in Paris. We were proud to witness Mona’s journey from a Gaisce Bronze Awardee to an Olympic Bronze Awardee!Â
