Sail Training Ireland is a charity that funds the development of young people from all backgrounds and abilities on the island of Ireland by allowing them to participate in voyages on sailing vessels. While they learn about sailing it’s more about learning from the whole experience. The exciting adventure offers the participants the opportunity to overcome fears, push boundaries and take on new responsibilities in a challenging environment. The experience promotes self-confidence, enhances self-esteem and develops leadership, teamwork and communication skills. It often has a profound effect on the participant's outlook and life.

Programme Breakdown
Sail Training Ireland delivers Gaisce Residential programmes onboard the type of ship known as tall ships. Whilst onboard they will participate in all aspects of the running of the ship from driving the ship to cooking in the Galley to hoisting the sails and standing watch, all under the watchful eye of the professional crew. In addition, Sail Training Ireland also place trained STIrl mentors on board to support the young people on their journey. This also allows them to explore several potential career paths, which can be as part of their Gaisce Award or to help focus the individual. The outdoors and the tall ship acts as a classroom whilst Participants learn about sailing.
