Chances are that at some time over the past few weeks you\’ve asked yourself \”Why can\’t I get everything done?\” The good news is that when it comes to time, thinking about it actually complicates it. Thinking means you are creating your thoughts and anything you create, you can manage. So remove any of those thoughts around \”not having enough time,\” and you\’re one step further to completing your Gaisce Award.
Here is some practical advice to help you be the master your time:
1. Keep A Diary
Keeping a diary of what you’re doing can be a great way of identifying how much you can get done, where you are spending your time and how much time you are wasting.
2. Prioritise
Keeping a to-do list is a great idea until it becomes so long that you end up getting nothing done. Any activity which is important to your achievement should be scheduled first. The rest can wait.
3. Focus on Whats Important
Thinking, doing and talking about what’s important to you, making it part of your everyday thinking, will ensure you achieve it.
4. Schedule Time For Interruptions
Plan distractions into your day. A text from a friend, a call from someone who needs help, whatever it is allow time for unexpected events.
5. Get Off To The Right Start
Take five minutes before you start each prioritised task to decide what you want to achieve. This will help you visualise your desired outcome. It will also slow time down.
6. Do Not Distrub
If you are really under pressure and need to get a task done, put up a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign.
7. Turn Your Phone Off
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, it’s easy be distracted by all technology has to offer. The only way to get your task done is to turn off your phone.
8. Rome Wasn’t Built In A day
Remember it\’s impossible to get everything done. Also remember that 20 percent of thoughts, efforts and activities produce 80 percent of the results.
